Perplexity’s computer agent now runs locally on AMD-powered PCs
On September 24, Perplexity brought Portable Computer, the on-device version of its Computer agent platform, to Windows PCs with AMD Ryzen AI Max processors. Tasks and recurring workflows run on the user’s own hardware without spending Computer credits on inference. It needs at least 24GB of GPU-accessible memory and about 20GB for installation, and supports Qwen 3.8 27B and Perplexity’s PPLX 27B as local models. Code runs in an isolated sandbox with access only to folders the user allows, and an on-device classifier scans for sensitive details before anything leaves the PC.
