OpenAI and Synopsys are building a custom model for chip design
Synopsys and OpenAI announced on September 30 a multi-year partnership to develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialized model. It is meant to operate Synopsys’ chip design (EDA) tools as an expert engineer would, so engineers can hand off goals such as power, performance and area optimization, timing and verification closure to AI agents. OpenAI is licensing Synopsys tools for the work; the two will share revenue and sell the product together. Customer design data won’t be used for training. Early tests with chipmakers are underway; pricing and a launch date were not disclosed. Greg Brockman: “By helping them build better chips, we can build better AI and bring it to more people.”
