The week in tech and AI: Oct. 5-10, 2026
Claude now turns data into live dashboards and ideas into animated explainers
Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion in beta on October 8. Dashboards connects to sources like BigQuery, Snowflake or Salesforce, writes the query itself and builds a dashboard that updates as the data changes. Motion builds animations as code, with no video model involved, so any word or timing can be changed before exporting an MP4. Motion is limited to Team and Enterprise plans for now.
OpenAI’s Decisions API does one thing: fast calls
OpenAI moved the Decisions API, first shown at DevDay, into public beta on October 6. The endpoint runs on GPT-6 Luna and takes text or images, returning the probability that a statement is true, a pick from fixed options or a score. OpenAI says it is up to 10x faster than the Responses API. In an egg-sorting demo, Roboflow’s Erik Kokalj measured about 270ms per call.
Someone with no astronomy training used Claude to find two possible planet signals in NASA data
Pavel Rabtsevich, a product manager in Spain, used Claude Code to search TESS data collected since 2018 and found two transit-like signals around TIC 4206066, a star 116 light-years away. The stronger one repeats every 3.18 days and points to a planet about 1.4 times the size of Earth. TESS will observe the star again from October 31, but that alone won’t confirm a planet.
Trump calls anyone who says “artificial intelligence” “THE ENEMY”
On October 8, Trump wrote on Truth Social that the White House considers anyone who uses “Artificial Intelligence” instead of “the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!” On September 29 he signed an order telling federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI.” It applies only to federal agencies, and Axios noted that White House websites still use “AI.”
Musk sees a path to SpaceX being worth more than the Earth economy
On October 8, Elon Musk wrote on X: “This will sound super crazy, but I see a path to SpaceX being worth orders of magnitude more than the current Earth economy.” A day later he said it was not “a statement of extreme confidence,” only that the probability is not zero. SpaceX, public since June, is worth about $2.2 trillion.
Bezos says AI could let some people choose a three-day workweek
In a Fox News interview with Bret Baier that aired October 7, Jeff Bezos said AI will raise productivity so much that some people will decide “I can support my family by working three days a week.” If people don’t want to work two jobs, he said, they won’t have to, which will make hiring harder. He gave no timeline. On a possible bubble: “The inventions don’t disappear when the bubble pops.”
Meta bans TikTok ads from Facebook and Instagram
Since October 8, Meta has stopped running ads from ByteDance, and third-party ads that link to TikTok, in seven countries: the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. “We don’t have to run ads from a competitor whose goal is to pull people off our apps,” a Meta spokesperson said. Bloomberg broke the news. TikTok did not comment.
Apple will hold a “Welcome home” event in New York on October 13
Apple marketing chief Greg Joswiak posted “Welcome home. October 13.” on October 8. Press invites call it an “Apple Experience” in Tribeca, New York, at 9 a.m. ET, not a classic keynote. Apple hasn’t named any products, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects a home hub with a screen, a new HomePod mini and a new Apple TV 4K.
Amazon and Corning built a new display by etching glass at the nanometer scale
Amazon unveiled its new Alexa+ tablets on October 8. The 12-inch Alexa Tablet 12 Pro offers an optional Nanomatte display: a photolithography process developed with Corning etches a pixel-aligned texture into the glass to sharply cut glare. Amazon devices chief Panos Panay describes it as a honeycomb structure at the nanometer scale. The Nanomatte model costs $549.99.
Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Burna Boy and Morgan Wallen will host GTA 6 radio stations
Rockstar revealed six of GTA 6’s radio stations on October 8. Hosts were listed under persona names, and the artists and music press confirmed who they are: Bad Bunny on Cocoteo FM, Morgan Wallen and Lana Del Rey on Back Country Radio, Burna Boy on AfroBank FM. The series also gets podcasts for the first time, and players can now listen on foot through headphones connected to their phones. The game is out November 19.
A humanoid robot hit streamer Westcol from behind during a livestream
Colombian streamer Westcol and singer Blessd were testing a humanoid robot called T800 for the Stream Fighters 5 robot fight on an October 7 Kick stream. Dancing to music, the robot swung an arm, hit Westcol from behind and knocked him down. He kept streaming but later wrote that his head hurt. In a separate move, the robot also smashed a glass display case. Westcol says its moves are programmed in advance.
