Microsoft opens pre-orders for a $5,999 developer PC that can run 120-billion-parameter models locally
Microsoft opened pre-orders on October 7 for the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, a compact developer PC first shown in June, priced at $5,999. It is sold only on Microsoft.com in the US and starts shipping in November. Inside is Nvidia’s RTX Spark superchip, pairing a 20-core Grace CPU with a Blackwell RTX GPU with 6,144 cores and up to 128GB of unified memory. Microsoft says it delivers up to 1 petaflop of AI performance and can run models with more than 120 billion parameters locally, without the cloud. These are company claims. VS Code, WSL and GitHub Copilot come preinstalled.
