OpenAI and Google Cloud announced a partnership on October 21 that brings OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex agentic workflows into Google Cloud’s Model Garden. According to Google Cloud’s blog post, GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to select enterprise customers. Customers can build with them through APIs and connect local Codex CLI and desktop workflows to Google’s Gemini platform for inference. OpenAI says general availability is planned in the coming weeks.

Purchases are transacted through Google Cloud Marketplace, so usage appears on a single Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing cloud spend commitments. Google says the models run on dedicated Google Cloud infrastructure and that customer data is never used to train foundation models, with Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute coming soon. OpenAI models will also come to Google Antigravity and to what Google calls Gemini for business and OpenAI calls the Gemini Agent.

Google Cloud says this makes it the only hyperscale cloud provider offering all three leading closed-source model families. OpenAI President Greg Brockman called the partnership an important step in making its models and Codex available where customers already build. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said the goal is a broad selection so customers can pick the right model for each job. In June, OpenAI made a similar arrangement letting Oracle customers use their cloud commitments for its models and Codex. OpenAI’s announcement ends by noting that Microsoft remains its primary cloud partner.
