Thore Graepel, a co-creator of AlphaGo, is starting a new company
Graepel left Google DeepMind this summer and is raising tens of millions from a small initial group of backers for a company called Metis Reasoning, with a larger tranche possible later at a higher valuation. It works on AI that can respond to unfamiliar problems and choose an action, aimed at robotics, science and engineering. The bet: the next leap comes not from making language models bigger but from teaching machines to reason through problems.
