Tesla unveils the new Roadster, pitched as its first flying car
Tesla made its new Roadster flip in midair at a SpaceX test site
On the evening of October 15, Tesla unveiled the new Roadster at SpaceX’s McGregor test site in Texas. Driving itself, the car jumped over a Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Cybercab and Semi and did a full rotation in midair.
Tesla says it “can fly,” but the demo showed short hops
The car climbed a backward-curving ramp, held on upside down with fan suction, then steadied itself with thrusters and landed. Tesla says the top Rocket version has 10 cold-gas thrusters and goes 0-60 mph in under 0.59 seconds. Still, it isn’t sustained flight.
