OpenAI fired contractors who used AI while training its models
According to 404 Media, contractors hired to review and improve ChatGPT’s responses were fired or removed from projects for having AI do their work. The program runs under the codename Project Lily, with recruitment through Crossing Hurdles and payment via Mercor. The point of human revision is to stop models degrading by learning from data other models produced. Reviewers are told not to trust detection tools and to look instead at repetitive wording, unusually fast completion times and writing patterns typical of AI.
