NTT Data is in the final stages of talks to build Anthropic’s first data center in Japan, Nikkei reports
NTT Data Group, a unit of NTT, is in the final stages of talks to build Anthropic’s first dedicated data center in Japan, in Osaka, the Nikkei reported on October 13, citing multiple sources. According to Reuters, which relayed the report, the facility would have a power intake capacity of up to 500 megawatts and construction could cost up to 1 trillion yen (about $6.3 billion).
The two sides aim to sign an agreement by the end of fiscal 2026, which ends March 31, 2027, and partial operations could start as early as 2028. According to The Next Web, citing Nikkei, drawing that much power from the grid would be slow, so on-site generation such as fuel cells will be considered first.
Neither company has confirmed the deal. Reuters said NTT declined to comment.
