Meta admitted its Muse agent was heavily inspired by OpenClaw
Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, said the open-source personal agent project OpenClaw was the source for Muse. Users had compared the two products’ configuration files and found them nearly identical, including the contents of SOUL.md, the file that sets an agent’s personality and boundaries. Friedman called Peter Steinberger, who wrote OpenClaw, a genius. Because OpenClaw was released under an open license, the overlap has no clear legal dimension.
