On October 23, the Grok Imagine account on X posted Episode 1 of its Odyssey series, made with Grok Imagine. The episode runs about 7 minutes 12 seconds and was a creative collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker. Grok Imagine is the video generation tool from Musk’s SpaceXAI. As of October 27 the post had more than 7.5 million views. The account also offered to publish a full breakdown of how the episode was made.
According to TechCrunch, Elon Musk said about three months earlier that Grok would release a full-length, “historically accurate” version of The Odyssey. So far, only the first seven minutes are out. Musk had earlier criticized the casting of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which relied mainly on practical filmmaking.
In an October 25 review, TechCrunch’s Anthony Ha wrote that some shots could pass for real actors on a real sea and that the footage was better than Musk’s recent AI videos. He also found that the voiceover backstory drags, the dialogue is stilted and the result is “airless.” “If it was a video game cutscene, I would have hit the ‘skip’ button,” Ha wrote, adding that he could not assess its historical accuracy. The same week, Sanxingdui: Future Past, a Chinese feature with images and sound generated by AI, opened in theaters in China.
