Google is sending an experimental satellite carrying 4 TPUs into space on October 1
MVP, the first Project Suncatcher satellite, was built with Planet and is about the size of a fridge. It launches from Vandenberg Space Force Base on SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission. The aim is to see whether data-center-class accelerators survive launch, radiation, thermal extremes and sustained operation; the satellite carries enough compute to answer simple Gemini queries from orbit. Cooling is still the limit: the design combines heat pipes and radiators and can run in bursts of roughly 15 minutes before the TPUs must stop.
