Google buys 3.6 GW of power from Constellation Energy, a quarter of it from new nuclear capacity
On October 6, Google and Constellation Energy announced long-term deals covering 3,590 megawatts on PJM, the largest US power grid. Of that, 890 MW will come from uprates at 11 Constellation nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey: no new reactors, but entirely new output for the grid. That portion runs under a 20-year contract, while the remaining 2,700 MW is a 15-year supply deal. Constellation will invest more than $4.3 billion, with the first uprate expected by 2028. The companies say the work will create about 7,200 construction jobs.
