As OpenAI launches dots, dot.com redirects to Musk’s Grok Bot

Published: 3 sourcesTürkçe

Typing dot.com into a browser opens Grok Bot’s page directly. So this part isn’t a claim, it’s a redirect anyone can try.

Records show dot.com moved to Musk’s company in July, months before dots. There’s no statement from Musk, xAI or OpenAI. There’s a boring explanation: “dot” is a typo of “bot.” But the company owns neither bot.com nor the similar vot.com, which makes the prank theory stronger. One single-source claim says the domain was already at SpaceX and was meant to be Grok Bot’s original name. The user who first spotted the redirect calls himself “SpaceXAI’s chief prankster,” but has no known official tie to the company.

WHAT WE KNOW, AND ONE CLAIM

  • The domain → Moved to Musk’s company in July
  • Official statements → None from Musk, xAI or OpenAI
  • “It was Grok Bot’s first name” claim → Single source, unverified

An image showing Musk with dots plushies is going around too, but it isn’t real. It appears to be AI-generated, and there’s no record of Musk at DevDay.
