Amazon drops nondisclosure agreements in data center approvals. The company says over 100 data center moratoriums are under consideration in the US

In a post on October 2, AWS CEO Matt Garman wrote: “We no longer use nondisclosure agreements with the government agencies we work with on our projects.” The agreements had long been criticized for letting local officials keep projects from the public. In the same post, Garman wrote that over 100 data center moratoriums are being considered across the country; the figure is Amazon’s own count. The company also pledged an additional $1 billion over five years to communities that host its data centers. The move came days after Representative Jamie Raskin opened an inquiry into Amazon, Google, Meta and Oracle over these secrecy agreements.
