The biggest AI developments of the past week

Free ChatGPT users now get GPT-6, in its Luna version

OpenAI brought GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT’s Chat tab on October 7. Paid plans run GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna, the family’s lowest-cost model, in a rollout that started October 8. Intelligent UI can build answers with interactive charts, maps, forms or calculators when useful. It isn’t available in the Work tab or in Voice.

Claude now works inside Google Docs, Sheets and Slides

Anthropic opened Claude for Google Workspace in beta on October 6 for all paid Claude plans. Installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace, the add-on opens a sidebar where Claude reads the open file and any text, cells or slide the user selects, then edits in place. It builds formulas, pivot tables and charts in Sheets and on-theme slides in Slides. By default, every edit waits for the user’s approval.

Claude now turns data into live dashboards and ideas into animated explainers

Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards and Claude Motion in beta on October 8. Dashboards connects to sources like BigQuery, Snowflake or Salesforce, writes the query itself and builds a dashboard that updates as the data changes. Motion builds animations as code, with no video model involved, so any word or timing can be changed before exporting an MP4. Motion is limited to Team and Enterprise plans for now.

Google’s Playground turns text prompts into playable browser games

Google Labs launched Playground as an experiment on October 7. Users describe a game in a chat box, then change its physics, rules, characters and world with more prompts. Games run in the browser on phones and computers. For now it’s US-only and 18+; playing is free, while creating uses a weekly quota. Google says the game footage in its launch video is illustrative.

Google’s experimental Mac app Foresight keeps meeting notes on the device

Google’s AI Edge team released Foresight, an experimental Mac app, on October 6. It transcribes meeting audio on the computer, expands shorthand notes with details from the conversation and answers questions from the user’s files, with citations. EmbeddingGemma 2 and Gemma 4 run on-device, so the app also works offline. Google says there are no cloud subscription costs.

The National Hurricane Center says Google DeepMind’s model was very accurate for Isaias

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on the evening of October 9 as a Category 2 storm, hours after peaking at Category 3. The National Hurricane Center wrote that its forecast was “very near the Google DeepMind guidance, which has been very accurate for Isaias.” Self-described meteorologist Packie Young says the model’s 1,000-member ensemble locked in the landfall spot four days early.

Isomorphic Labs is in talks to raise money at a valuation of at least $40 billion

Isomorphic Labs, the drug discovery company spun out of Google DeepMind, is in early talks to raise new funds at a valuation of at least $40 billion, Bloomberg reported on October 8, citing people familiar with the matter. One said it could reach $50 billion. The company, led by Demis Hassabis, raised $2.1 billion in May and hasn’t announced any human trials yet.

NYU mathematician says OpenAI’s 722 papers “destroyed” early careers

On October 6, OpenAI posted 722 math manuscripts produced by an unreleased internal model to GitHub, and withdrew three over an error a day later. On CNBC on October 8, NYU professor Tristan Buckmaster said the release “destroyed the careers of early career mathematicians” and wiped out whole research programs. He is already in a public dispute with OpenAI over its Navier-Stokes claim.

Trump calls anyone who says “artificial intelligence” “THE ENEMY”

On October 8, Trump posted on Truth Social that anyone who says “Artificial Intelligence” is THE ENEMY. On September 29 he signed an order telling federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI.” It applies only to federal agencies, and Axios noted that White House websites still use “AI.”

Being persistently cruel to Claude breaks Anthropic’s rules from November 12

Anthropic updated its Usage Policy on October 8. A new rule taking effect November 12 bans “sustained and needless abusive or cruel behavior toward our models.” The company says it applies only to extreme cases where users repeatedly act cruelly with no discernible purpose. The main enforcement is Claude ending those conversations; Anthropic hasn’t said whether accounts could also be banned.

A developer is building open-source alternatives to Adobe’s apps with Claude

ArtCraft founder Brandon Thomas announced seven open-source Rust apps on October 3, modeled on Adobe tools from Photoshop to InDesign, and says he built them with Claude Opus 5.5. The apps are still at 0.x versions, and PhotoCraft’s own README says it isn’t ready for daily professional work yet.

REA, an MIT-licensed tool from developer morluto, gives agents like Claude Code, Codex and Cursor reverse-engineering tools over MCP, using Hopper, Ghidra or IDA for native binaries. An agent can trace how a feature in a closed-source app works, show the evidence and build a similar version. Its disclaimer rules out copying proprietary software.

Activision took down AI-built Call of Duty ports that ran in the browser

On October 8, a list of 25 browser game links, including Black Ops Zombies, Skate 3, Halo and Quake, went viral on X. None are official, and some need the player’s own game files. On October 10, developer Luckey Faraday said an Activision DMCA notice took the Call of Duty ports offline. They were built with AI coding agents. The list post has since been deleted.

A student got GTA V’s unofficial browser build running natively on an iPhone

On October 9, EPFL student C22 showed GTA V running on an iPhone without an emulator. The open-source Muguet project takes the WebAssembly file from an unofficial browser port that went offline within hours on October 6, compiles it ahead of time and runs it on Metal. The wasmtime compiler does that conversion, not AI. Game files aren’t included; Rockstar and Take-Two haven’t commented.

Hood Warfare 2, a $5.99 gang shooter set in Chicago, is going viral

Trapstar Games released Hood Warfare 2 on Steam on October 8. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the multiplayer shooter has rival gangs fighting over turf on Chicago-themed maps. It took off after a clip from Rainbow Six player Merc passed 7 million views on X. Posts calling it “vibe coded” cite no statement from the developer.
