The Washington Sun: the NSA is spending billions a year testing frontier models
According to two people familiar with classified intelligence estimates, the NSA told lawmakers it is spending billions of dollars this year evaluating and testing advanced AI models. The spending is said to be tied to the agency’s Artificial Intelligence Security Center, though that link has not been confirmed by any official NSA, Defense Department or congressional source. Because the figure is markedly higher than previously known, lawmakers believe a comprehensive AI regulatory system could cost tens of billions a year. No public budget document confirms the amount and the Pentagon has not commented.
