Pope Leo XIV called on AI developers in Paris to slow down

On the first official papal visit to France in 18 years, the pope addressed President Emmanuel Macron and French authorities at the Élysée Palace on September 25 and asked AI developers, and the politicians who regulate them, to slow down: “If we are to avoid losing our humanity amid a paradise of machines invading and conditioning our daily lives, there is an urgent need for education in ethical discernment.” Speaking to reporters on the flight to Paris that morning, he said he hoped dialogue with technology companies would continue. He devoted his first encyclical to AI.
