The ghost jobs report: 28.3% of open listings are more than 90 days old
This story was updated after publication (Oct. 9, 2026). Details
Unlisted’s September 2026 report swept 607,050 postings open on employers’ own careers sites; the sweep began on August 24 and the data was computed on September 23. Hospitality postings sit longest: 43.9% have been open more than 90 days, with a median of 65 days. Healthcare turns over fastest at 19.7%. By platform, Lever carries the largest stale share at 48.2% and Workday the smallest at 17.2%. The report’s own caveat matters: a long-open posting proves nothing on its own, since some roles are evergreen and some employers hire in volume all year.
