The Browser Company, which Atlassian acquired for $610 million in 2025, announced on October 22 that it will sunset the Arc browser on December 22, 2026, and focus on its AI browser, Dia. The stated reason is security: “Keeping a browser secure takes constant, dedicated work that is only increasing in the age of AI.” The company says Dia was built from the ground up to meet today’s security standards.

The shutdown comes in three stages. As of October 22, new Arc accounts can no longer be created, and the latest version adds an option to export all data. On November 23, Browse for Me and other AI features in Arc Search on iOS and Android will be disabled, along with sign-in and tab sync. On December 22, Arc will stop working on macOS and Windows. Accounts will be deactivated, personal data deleted within 30 days, and Arc Search for Android pulled from Google Play.

According to the company, passwords, bookmarks, extensions and history carry over to Dia. Arc’s Spaces become Profiles in Dia, and Folders become Tab Groups. The company says Dia now beats Arc on stability, speed and security benchmarks, that Arc’s features are free in Dia and that the AI is optional. Feature development on Arc stopped in 2025. Josh Miller told TechCrunch that Arc can’t be meaningfully open-sourced without also open-sourcing ADK, the proprietary development kit that also powers Dia.
