The Seattle Times and Newsday want the training data and the models destroyed

Published: 2 sourcesTürkçe

The suit was filed on September 4 in the Southern District of New York against OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging that hundreds of thousands of articles, paywalled ones included, were copied without permission. Copyright law lets courts order infringing copies destroyed, and the publishers want that to cover training datasets and models too. Whether a court can order a trained large language model destroyed is a new legal question. OpenAI calls the training fair use; Microsoft said it was surprised by the lawsuit.
