Qualcomm and Apple extended their patent agreement from 2027
This story was corrected after publication (Oct. 9, 2026). Details
The new agreement takes effect on April 1, 2027; the current one was due to end on March 31, 2027. Qualcomm will keep licensing its cellular and connectivity patent portfolio to Apple across its product line, iPhone included. Duration and financial terms were not disclosed. What it means: even as Apple develops its own modem chips and reduces its reliance on Qualcomm hardware, it still needs legal permission to use cellular standards in iPhones. Qualcomm’s licensing business was about 13% of total revenue in the June quarter.
