Neuralink VOICE: Terry speaks by thinking, through the implant
Terry, who has ALS, is the third participant in Neuralink’s VOICE trial. The device sits in his speech motor region, where 3,000 recording channels read his neural signals. He trained the algorithm first by miming speech, then simply by thinking the words. The decoded output runs through xAI’s Grok Voice and comes out in his own voice, modeled on recordings made before his ALS. Neuralink notes its devices are investigational and not FDA approved.
