Bloomberg: overreliance on the Maven system contributed to a strike on a school in Iran
On February 28, two Tomahawk missiles hit the Shajarah Tayyebeh primary school in southern Iran, killing more than 150 people, at least 123 of them children. Bloomberg’s investigation found that overconfidence in Maven, the Palantir-built software, together with an assumption that it had capabilities beyond its scope, was among the contributing factors. Investigators identified a chain of failures: intelligence that had not been updated, disconnected databases and rushed planning. The Pentagon had dismantled most of its civilian harm mitigation units and cut their staff by about 90%.
